Common Concerns about Cosmetic Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

Cosmetic eye surgery is often done at the same time as a facelift and a brow lift.

If surgery is being done on the upper eyelid, the surgeon makes an incision in the crease. If the surgery is being done on the lower eyelid, the incision can be placed below the lower eyelashes or inside the lower eyelid. To close the incisions, the surgeon may use sutures, glue, or surgical tape. If your eyes have dark discoloration, the surgeon may use a laser chemical peel to remove it.

All surgeries have risks. If the surgery goes badly, then your eyes could look awful. At worst, you could also end up with serious eye problems. The problems might be: impaired vision or blindness; problems with eye function, such as having a hard time closing your eyes, lid lag (when the lower lid pulls down), or ectropion (when the eyelid rolls outward); any of the risks associated with any surgery; or  roblems with how well or how fast you heal.

You want to be sure that you are a good candidate for the surgery, and you also want to find the best doctor possible. You may want to consider selecting a plastic surgeon in New Orleans who is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS).

The cost of your surgery is determined by the doctor’s skill and geographical location. Expect to pay for the surgeon, the anesthesiologist, and the site where the surgery is performed. You may also have to pay for other items, such as medical tests or medications. Many doctors let you pay for the surgery over time.

You might want to consider traveling for your cosmetic eyelid surgery to cut down the price in your area. You need to make sure that the surgeon is excellent and that you will receive the best possible care, but the cost can sometimes be less than the cost of receiving surgery closer to home.
