Breast Enhancement with the Fat Transfer Technique – Metairie / New Orleans-based Plastic Surgeon
Dr. Kamran Khoobehi is pleased to offer one of the most advanced breast enhancement techniques – fat transfer – to patients in Metairie, New Orleans, and surrounding areas. Since few cosmetic surgery practices utilize this technique, we also frequently treat patients from locations throughout the country. Fat transfer, also known as autologous fat grafting or fat injections, is a relatively new technique that involves transplanting a patient’s own fat to her breasts. Since the fat is often harvested from “problem areas” such as the buttocks and thighs, the technique helps many patients attain the attractive and natural-looking overall physiques they desire. What Makes Dr. Khoobehi’s Fat Grafting Method Different
The autologous fat grafting technique is distinct from other breast enhancement methods in several ways. The numerous benefits of this single-visit procedure, along with Dr. Khoobehi’s track record of success with fat injections, draws patients from throughout the nation seeking highly sophisticated options in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery.
New Fat Harvesting Technique
The new fat grafting technique for breast reconstruction is available at Dr Khoobehi’s practice in Metairie and a few other practices elsewhere in the country. The procedure is gentle and provides attractive, natural-looking results for appropriate candidates.
Benefits of Fat Transfer vs. Other Breast Enhancement and Reconstruction Options
Patients from Baton Rouge, New York, Los Angeles, and other locations throughout the country frequently contact our office regarding fat transfer to the breast because of its many benefits. The fat harvesting technique is gentler than previous fat harvesting methods, causing less damage to the cells. Clinical studies showed no greater incidence of calcification, infection, loss of sensation, increased lumpiness, and other side effects among patients who had undergone fat grafting for breast enhancement than among patients who had undergone other breast augmentation procedures. Since the technique does not involve placing implants into the breast, it involves minimal scarring and no risk of implant failure or need of implant removal. The technique also allows for a high-volume fat harvest, which makes the fat grafting technique ideal for breast reconstruction procedures. Finally, breast enhancement with fat injections can be performed with other facial and body contouring procedures as part of a total-body or “mommy” makeover.
Although other surgeons are still wary about performing fat transfer for breast augmentation and reconstruction, Dr. Khoobehi has complete confidence in the procedure. He has provided fat injections for hundreds of patients, with phenomenal success; check out our before-and-after plastic surgery gallery to see some examples. In fact, his first patient was his wife, who is still enjoying excellent augmentation results.
Candidates for Fat Transfer to the Breast
Candidates for fat transfer to the breast must meet several requirements. A patient must have adequate body fat for transplanting. She must have a normal mammography and needs to have a follow-up mammogram one year after the fat transfer procedure. A fat transfer candidate must have reasonable goals for the procedure and consider other options if she wants to drastically increase her breast size. Patients should also be aware that the fat transfer procedure requires more time on the operating table than other breast enhancement procedures.
The Fat Grafting / Transfer Procedure
Fat transfer is a relatively straightforward procedure. The surgeon begins the procedure by administering tumescent fluid. When the tumescent fluid has taken its full effect, the surgeon harvests the fat from the donor site using a tiny cannula connected to a special apparatus. Next, he transplants the fat to the breast through four 1/8-inch incisions. Then, he sutures the incisions. Finally, the surgeon applies a dressing to the breasts to minimize swelling. Recovery typically takes less than one week.
