Fraxel® Laser Skin Resurfacing and Other Skin Treatments – Metairie and New Orleans

Skin treatments such as laser skin resurfacing, dermabrasion, and chemical peels may be ideal for people looking to remedy the evidence that age, excessive sun exposure, acne, and other factors has left on their skin. Many of our patients also enjoy our skin treatments as a supplement to traditional plastic surgery procedures, such as facelift or eyelid surgery. We are happy to offer a selection of quality treatments, including Obagi® skin care and Fraxel® laser skin resurfacing at our Metairie and New Orleans-area plastic surgery practice.

Fraxel® Laser Skin Resurfacing

Before the development of the Fraxel® laser, patients only had two laser skin resurfacing options – ablative and non-ablative treatment. Ablative laser treatment is a quick and effective means of resurfacing the skin, but post-treatment recovery takes a long time. Non-ablative laser treatment takes longer to achieve desired results, but healing time is drastically decreased.

Fraxel® laser treatment, on the other hand, combines the best of both worlds. Patients are able to see results in less time than with non-ablative laser treatment, without the long healing time associated with ablative treatment.

We use Fraxel® laser skin resurfacing at our New Orleans-area practice to address a variety of skin problems. Age spots and brown spots fade; acne scars and pitting become less noticeable; wrinkles around the eyes are diminished; and dull skin takes on a more youthful glow.

Before beginning the Fraxel® laser skin resurfacing procedure, a blue tint is applied to the area to be treated. This tint allows the laser to distinguish the subtle contours of the treatment area. After an anesthetic ointment is applied and allowed to take effect, the laser treatment is performed.

Fraxel® laser skin resurfacing is offered at our Metairie practice on an outpatient basis. New Orleans-area residents that wish to learn more about this revolutionary treatment are encouraged to contact our plastic surgery practice.

Obagi® Skin Care Products

The Obagi Blue Peel® is a highly effective chemical peel that can rejuvenate tired skin and help smooth and clear the complexion. An extremely versatile treatment, the Obagi Blue Peel® can be adjusted to suit the needs of patients with a variety of skin types and skin conditions.

We are also pleased to offer our patients Obagi® prescription-strength skin care products for the treatment of a variety of skin problems, including age spots, acne, and fine lines and wrinkles. Highly potent and effective, these products are only available through a medical skin care professional.

Laser Hair Removal

Shaving, waxing, depilatory creams, and other methods of hair removal can be inconvenient, messy, and irritating. Laser hair removal, on the other hand, is a long-lasting alternative to these traditional methods. Laser light disables hair follicles, which are responsible for growing new hair. As the laser only disables the hair follicles that are active at the time of treatment, two or more laser hair removal treatments may be necessary to achieve optimal results.

Dermabrasion

Dermabrasion is a proven technique to remove the upper layer of skin, revealing the fresher, more vibrant skin underneath. It can be a useful alternative to Fraxel® laser skin resurfacing when extensive skin damage needs to be corrected. In addition to fading age spots and freckles, dermabrasion can lessen the prominence of old scars and soften the look of wrinkles. The treatment is performed under local anesthetic and involves little to no discomfort. After dermabrasion, patients may experience redness, swelling, and burning. These effects are temporary and may be managed by taking a prescription pain reliever. Patients are usually able to return to work in two weeks, although any activities involving contact with the sensitive skin should be avoided until the skin heals.

Chemical Peel

A chemical peel involves the use of a chemical solution to remove the top layer of skin. Those with acne, uneven skin pigmentation, or fine lines and wrinkles may benefit from this treatment. During the initial consultation, Dr. Khoobehi will examine your skin and recommend the type of chemical peel best suited to your unique needs.
