DR. KHOOBEHI: Blepharoplasty is a procedure to remove the excess skin from the upper eyelid and lower eyelid. Patients that come for blepharoplasty fall into different categories. One is the group of patients that they have excess skin because of the aging. They have a bag under the eye because of aging. And there's another group of patients that they have this, as a congenital, they are born with it. They are even in their 20s and have this extra skin on upper eyelid and lower eyelid.
One of the key things again with lower eyelid and upper eyelid surgery is that do not change the shape of the eye. You want to give them the same look, but looking better. You don't want to make it so tight that the patient looks abnormal, when the blink they look abnormal. So the key, again, is make them look natural and remove the excess skin from the upper and lower eyelid. These procedures can be done under local or general anesthesia. The recovery, looking at about a week to ten days, and the patients typically have a very nice result. And doing a procedure, I also try for the upper eyelid, when I do the procedure I also give them a little bit eyelash lift and have a paper published in this regard that gives a patient eyelash lift when I'm doing the procedure.
