DR. KHOOBEHI: Abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck, is a procedure that involves removing the excess skin from the lower abdomen. A typical patient that comes for consultation for abdominoplasty is a patient that had multiple pregnancies, they have stretch marks on the lower abdomen, they have lost and gained some weight and they fluctuated, and now they're going to the gym, they're trying to lose this excess skin on the lower abdomen and they're not having any success. These patients, not only do they have excess skin and laxness of tissue, but also they have loosency of the abdominal muscle. During the pregnancy, when the baby is getting bigger, it's going to stretch the muscles. But after pregnancy, most ladies have this bulging lower abdomen.
So during the procedure, one thing I will do for sure is remove excess skin. But I also am going to tighten the muscle to give them a flat abdomen, and also I combine liposuction in conjunction with abdominoplasty. During liposuction, I would remove the excess fatty tissue from the upper abdomen, from under the bra area, and also from the waist area to give them a more complete result. Typically my patients that have a tummy tuck they will lose six, eight inches from their waistline.
