DR. KHOOBEHI: A patient that we planned a surgery, one of the things we do is we prepare the patient for recovery. One thing we do is start our patients on vitamins before surgery and this helps the patient one, to have a less amount of bruising after surgery, but also decreases the amount of the swelling. For example, for face lift and liposuction patients, I also put them on multivitamins and irons before surgery, and also we start them on special vitamins to start taking them after surgery.

When patients come to our office for consultations and also for pre-op consultation, at that time we discuss with the patient about taking the vitamins and also starting some treatments to help them with the recovery. One thing we do for patients, especially for liposuction patients, face lift patients, we start them on vitamins and iron pills before surgery. That will help them to build up their immune system and also build up their blood count. The other thing that I do for patients after surgery is start them on a special vitamin package that they start taking immediately after surgery, and we find out that it helps a lot with the amount of bruising and swelling after surgery.

There's going to be a certain amount of swelling and bruising after surgery, but we start treatments before surgery to minimize that one. The other thing that we apply after surgery, for example, liposuction, is start an endermologie treatment to help them with the swelling.

The other thing that also we discuss with a patient at the time of the consultation before surgery is the expectations, what's to expect after surgery, what kind of result. I want to make sure the patient has realistic expectations from the surgery, go over pictures, before and after surgery pictures with the patient, and I try to also show the patients some of the medium results, great results, and also talk with patients over the characteristics of their skin, their bony structure, and limitation of their body that is going to affect the result after surgery.
