Dr. Kamran Khoobehi explains that breast augmentation means more than just increasing size, but aims to improve the overall appearance.

DR. KHOOBEHI: Breast augmentation is a procedure that involves enlarging the breasts. But the way I look at the breast augmentation is not just enlargement of the breast. I look at it as procedure to shape the breast, to make the breast more beautiful. A lot of times patients are more interested about the size. For me, size is important, but also you want to make sure that the patient has the best possible shape and the size that fits their body structure. For the breast augmentation, there are multiple options available. When a patient comes for a consultation, we'll discuss with them about the options that would fit their body structure the best. One thing that is discussed with the patient is that the position of the implant, going underneath the muscle or on top of the muscle. Most common placement I do is underneath the muscle. And also, then, we discuss with the patient regarding the options for the kind of implant. Since 2007, we have the option of using the silicone implants and I do use silicone implants for some patients. That provides them the best possible shape and also the feel. The other choice is the position of the incision. The patients have the options of going with the incision underneath the breast crease, through the nipple, through the armpit, or through the belly button, and the most common procedure offered my patients is through the inframammary fold incision, and I believe that provides them with the best possible shape and surface, and a more predictable result.
