Dermal Fillers

Restylane® and JUVÉDERM™ are two of the dermal fillers Dr. Kamran Khoobehi uses in his office.

DR. KHOOBEHI: Restylane was the first safe and lasting injectible that got FDA approval and is made of hyaluronic acid which is a natural building block of the human body. These injectibles are used to fill the lines around the mouth, in the corner of the mouth, and I also use it for, we call it lunch time rhinoplasty, for injecting the people that have a little bit hump over here on the top of it, or want to get a little bit projection, and I also use it for under the eye, for circles under the eye, and in California they call it lunch time blepharoplasty. It is very effective, lasts up to a year for those areas, but around the mouth and the lip last up to six months. The other medication that just got approval about a year ago was JUVÉDERM, and the same chemical, but has a little bit more higher concentration, is very effective, has a little bit less swelling than Restylane, and I've been using it for the last year and I've been very happy with it. And there are some patients that they're going to benefit from this injectible. It's not for everybody. It is not for a 65, 70-year-old lady that has a lot of deep lines. Those patients are going to benefit more from surgery, but the patients that are the younger group and they are not candidates for surgery but they have a complaint about the corner of the mouth, around the nasal area fold area, or they have a little bit dark circle but they don't want to go through surgery, it provides me with the option to do a non-invasive procedure without putting the patients through the surgery and if they're not ready for that yet.
