DR. KHOOBEHI: Male patients that come and ask for plastic surgery is a little bit different than the female patient. One, they don't want as drastic a result. Two, they don't want to be as obvious result as much as possible. And number three is that they want to be a little bit more privacy compared to female patients.
The most common procedure that my male patients ask for is liposuction, and after that is facial plastic surgery from eyelid surgery to face lift or rhinoplasty. In male patients one thing also that's different is that they tend to have less tolerance for pain compared to female patients, which is very understandable, and when I plan my surgery I consider that when I discuss it in detail before surgery with the patient.
Regarding the results in male patients, also it doesn't make that much difference between female and male, they want the result and be able to tell the difference. But in society, the plastic surgery is not as accepted for male compared to female. And also when you're doing a surgery, one thing you want to prevent is to feminize the patient's face. You don't want to do too much on the men's face to make it look too obvious. There are certain parameters and guidelines you need to follow when you're doing a face lift, for example, in men compared to female. The eyebrow position is a little bit different between men and women, the lip itself, so you have to pay attention really to small details. And the other thing with men that also is a little bit different is that the amount of hair is less, so you have to be very careful with the incision. You want to place the incision in positions that is very easily covered and is not going to be noticeable, because there isn't enough hair to cover the incision around the ear or in the forehead area.
